Your QMID isn't on your invoice, your equipment, or any contractor paperwork.
A QMID is a 4-character code the IRS assigns to manufacturers for the 25C energy efficiency tax credit. It only exists in the IRS registration system. Here's how to get yours in under 10 seconds.
Two Ways to Get Your QMID
Look It Up
We maintain a QMID directory with 50+ manufacturers. Type your brand name and get the code instantly. We handle brand-to-manufacturer mapping automatically — if your unit says "Bryant," we know that's Carrier and give you N8H2.
The QMID is a 4-character alphanumeric code that identifies your equipment manufacturer. Enter it exactly as shown in the IRS database or our directory.
Call the Manufacturer
If your manufacturer isn't in our directory, call them and ask: "What is your QMID for the IRS 25C energy efficiency tax credit?" They'll know — they had to register with the IRS to get it.
You can also check the IRS's official list, but fair warning: it's a massive PDF and not easy to search.
The Brand vs. Manufacturer Trap
This is where most people get stuck. The brand on your equipment is often not the manufacturer the IRS has on file. The IRS registers parent companies, not sub-brands.
Don't Use the Brand Name
If your equipment says "Bryant" on the front, don't search for Bryant's QMID — it doesn't have one. Search for Carrier, the parent company.

Check the nameplate, not the logo
Some equipment is white-labeled. Open the service panel and look at the metal data plate inside — the actual manufacturer might be different from the brand on the front.
