DOE CCHP: which heat pumps meet it?

Rating thresholds from the DOE Residential Cold Climate Heat Pump Technology Challenge. 2.6% of certified models (322, about 1 in 40) meet it.

Covers heat pumps sold new today (R-454B and R-32 refrigerant). See older R-410A models · Updated

What it asks for

Challenge specification

  • Efficiency on a 5°F day (COP at 5°F): 2.1 or more
  • Heating power kept at 5°F (Capacity at 5°F vs 47°F): 100% or more of its 47°F output
  • Winter-long heating efficiency (HSPF2): 8.5 or more

A model counts when at least one of its certified pairings meets every line on its own. Requirements not published in AHRI ratings (cut-in temperature, GWP, controls) are not checked. Source: U.S. Department of Energy
